Some people resist making an effort wherever possible. They may feel that they use all their energy with their job, family, personal responsibilities and want to spend any free time collapsed on the couch watching television, relaxing. Setting ourselves goals outside of our comfort zone is important on occasion. Doing something new or unexpected may be scary at first but is often exciting and satisfying too. Often we find skills and resources we never knew we had, and an added bonus may be that we make new friends and contacts along the way. Making an effort for ourselves is a positive way of improving our confidence and self-belief. Setting ourselves the responsibility of looking after ourselves, how we look, how we spend our time, getting the most out of our work, our relationships all indicate a person who feels that their life is important. That person will not settle for a lesser life. They are prepared to make the most of each day. Lets read an interesting story.
This is the story of the giant ship engine that failed? The ship’s owners tried one expert after another, but none of them could figure but how to fix the engine.
Then they brought in an old man who had been fixing ships since he was a youngster. He carried a large bag of tools with him, and when he arrived, he immediately went to work. He inspected the engine very carefully, from top to bottom. Two of the ship’s owners were there, watching this man, hoping he would know what to do. After looking things over, the old man searched into his bag and pulled out a small hammer. He gently tapped something. & instantly, the engine lurched into life & got started. He carefully put his hammer away. The engine was fixed! A week later, the owners received a bill from the old man for 10,000 Rs.
“What?!” the owners exclaimed. “He hardly did anything!”
So they wrote the old man a note saying “Please send us an Itemized bill.”
The man sent a bill that read:
Tapping with a hammer ..Rs 2.00
Knowing where to …….Rs 9998.00
Total Rs Ten Thousand Only 10,000/-
The moral of story is that Effort is important, but knowing where to make an effort in your life, Makes all the difference. It is the effort that the person put into the situation, the stress and strain, hardship, endurance and so on, that counts the most. The results are often beside the point.
Success lies not in the result but in the effort, Being the best is not at all important, doing the best is all that matters.
